A Winter Garden

Our harbingers of Spring appeared on Christmas Eve to feast on the several cotoneaster shrubs and the red berries of the hawthorne tree that I keep specifically for the now large flock of robins wintering in our neighbors.  All fluffed up against the cold, they used the branches of the cherry tree to rest from their gorging of the ripe orange berries.  Within an hour or so, all of the berries from the three bushes and the tree are devoured.  I was priviledged to watch and listen to the feasting and squabbling.
